A Time of Finding

Because they are forgiven, psalm 32 says, the godly shall seek God in a time that God can be found, or in “a time of finding.” This implies too that there are times when we seek, that God CANNOT be readily found. In those times do we stop or abandon seeking? I don’t think so. In those times when God seems scarcely to be found, we are called upon more-so to do our seeking in faith. It is no accident that in the psalm immediately preceding, the psalmist declares that he will trust in Yahweh (the personal covenant name) because his “times” or seasons are in Yahweh’s hands.(Psalm 31 v.14,15) Whether it happens to be a season of seeking and finding God or a season of seeking and not finding God, our times and seasons are in God’s hands and, besides, it is always a season of seeking, it is always a time for seeking to draw near to our beloved God. It would seem that knowing something of our present season would potentially save us a lot of frustration, because we could then adjust our expectations accordingly. Since there are four seasons in nature (depending on where in the world one is) that might be a clue to us that there are at least that many seasons in the Spirit, and that they all come to pass. So this too will pass, this time, this particular season. It may be a time of seeking and finding or it may be a time of seeking and NOT finding, but, on this side of eternity, it’s ALWAYS a time of seeking.
