The King’s Ring: Living Letters Read by All

Paul used this metaphor of us being Christ’s letters of flesh and blood sent to the world, written and sealed by God the Holy Spirit and also using people to do the writing. But the sealing is done with His signet ring the way kings would do in antiquity. So that the recipient of the letter knew unmistakably that it came from the king. Its contents were official and approved so no one could legitimately question they were hearing from the king. In this case The King of Kings. And what was the signet ring impression in the hearts of these living letters to which the apostle Paul referred? None other than the Holy Spirit, known as the “near end of the Godhead” who is so practical and dwells within us and is poured upon us, anointing us for service. Paul writes “since it is plain that you are Christ’s letter produced (or ministered to) by us, not written with ink but with the Spirit of the living God; not on stone tablets but on tablets that are hearts of flesh.” (2 Corinthians 3 v. 3) Lends new meaning to the much published truth that there are 5 gospels and most won’t read the first four.
