An Over-rated Underliner

(Somewhere in Eternity a child of God with a Bible under his arm approaches an angel)
– Here I am, I’m a Christian who’s come for his reward.
– Oh, and I see you brought your Bible too.
– Yes, I bring it everywhere, let me show you something.
– What’s that?
– Look at all this underlining and at these notes in the margins. There’s almost as much in the margins as in the entire Bible!
– Wow! Tell me, is each underlined statement one that has been actually applied?
– If it’s underlined it means that I consider it important.
– Important enough to put into practice?
– Important enough to underline.
– Oh. I see. You know what, may I suggest that you wait before receiving your reward?
– Wait for what?
– Until you have actually DONE more of what you underlined. (Angel rummages about in a chest) As I look here among the rewards I don’t see much for merely reading and underlining the Bible.
– You don’t?
– No, and I don’t want you to be disappointed with your reward. We’d rather you be THRILLED with it.
– Well, OK, since you put it that way. (Somewhat hesitantly leafing through his Bible) I guess I could try out a few more of these favorite sayings of mine. Let’s see…..here’s one…why yes…this would be a GREAT place to start…..
