Planting the Ear

There is some interesting terminology in Psa 94 verse 9 where it reads, “He who planted the ear shall He not hear? He who formed the eye shall He not see?” The ear is not so much formed as it is planted. Why “planted” the ear, as if it was an ear of corn? Because God intends that the ear mature and ripen not only into a physical adult ear someday, but that its spiritual counterpart, the inner ear of the heart ripen eventually into one that is able to hear God’s voice accurately and consistently. We are to cultivate a sensitivity in the way we listen to God. That requires disciplined times of quiet. We water and “feed the seed” of the ear by learning from those already possessing a keen spritual ear. “He who has an ear let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.” We do it corporately confirming with one another and with Scripture what we are hearing, and delighting in the fact that we can even hear daily and continually from the living God of all the universe!
