Coming Through With More

The Biblical view of endurance or perseverance adds an oft forgotten dimension, that being that we go through adversity and come out the other side of it with some quality or spiritual possession that we didn’t have going into it. We don’t have to just “hang in there”, we can hang in there with the certainty (hope is a confident expectation) that we will be enlarged in nobility later because of it. With that in mind then consider this; even life and birth and death are like that. We come into this world naked and bringing nothing and we’ve heard it said we can bring nothing out of this world. Not true in a simply material sense. (or a spiritual one of course) Most people seem to go out with at least a suit of clothes and a box, and even a little plot of ground in which to be buried. Going through life then those items were added to them. For the ancient Hebrews it was a literal shame if they weren’t, for it was the deepest humiliation and curse upon the name and reputation of those denied burial. Burial itself and what goes with it in that sense is a blessing.
