What’s On Your Heart?

Asking God this question can be revealing if we’re serious about it. More often than not, other things being equal, the response may not directly concern the details and concerns of our own lives. Oftentimes what is on God’s heart is other people that we know. And part of the reason we know them is to interceed in their behalf. There are so many people that don’t know the people we know. And there are so many people that do know the people we know that couldn’t care less about them, that would just as soon not know them. But then there are also people that know the people we know and care about them, but wouldn’t think to pray for them though they may pray for other concerns. Or there are people that care about the people we know, but wouldn’t pray for them because they’re not praying people period. Hopefully their very caring in itself is a kind of prayer, though it lacks the intentionality of deliberate prayer. I have to confess that there are so many people that I know and like, and care about that I neglect when it comes to prayer, not to mention the ones that I may not like as much. In this new year I believe God is asking me to wade deeper into the mass of people, friends, relatives and otherwise that have been largely neglected in my so-called prayer-life. It’s like God is saying, “Terry, get a life!” That is to say get a deeper or more extensive prayer life. No condemnation on the one you already have, it’s appreciated, but it’s there to be built upon, Amen?
