What Does A Guy Have To Do?

A young baseball player from Cuba may well be asking this question after having hit over .500 in spring training with power and speed, and yet having been sent back down to the minor leagues for what management is saying were some “fine points.’ Fans of this team have to hope these refinements are worth the risk of discouraging and blighting the blossoming of one of the best prospects to come their way in recent years. What’s worse is that this particular team is starving desperately at this moment for exactly the kind of raw power and consistency that this player was demonstrating. Their conventional wisdom states that if this talent is really legitimate then it will continue to shine at the minor league level until it becomes so blindingly bright that they are forced to promote it to the big time. They might be right and I hope they are but if on the other hand they missed an opportunity to latch onto the momentum of a shooting star that could have lifted them, they ought not to complain now in the midst of their gasping freefall.
Makes me wonder if God follows a similar strategy with his bright and rising stars. Too much success too soon before the character is strong enough to support it is probably a greater danger than too little sucess too late once that strength of character has begun to persitently show itself.
